Learning Prezi Tips and Tricks & our first workshop

Written on February 17th, 2009, by adam

We did a 3 hours workshop last week for T-Systems Hungary – and we learned a lot ourselves! Learning the tools in Prezi went like a charm, and created a really good and playful atmosphere.

I did a fast Prezi Quick Manual.pdf (2 MB) that shows the basic parts in a printable form (using screensteps). This worked well to get through the basics.

However, when we got into telling stories visually, with zoom, that was another thing. I have a background in architecture and new media arts, and visual communication has always been present in my work. So, what I like in Prezi, the complete freedom, was clearly a burden at the workshop. Of course, being there, we could talk a lot about good use of zooming, and tell what was missing.

But we can do better – and offer two simple solutions

We have a very nice ongoing discussion about Templates here: http://blog.prezi.com/?p=29 which are clearly needed, and will offer great help IMO.

At the same time I also think we could collect a few good ideas how to utilize zooming for communication, which can be learned quickly. I created a Prezi with some of the tricks I use myself. Please have a look, and share with us what you think!

Ideas please!

But these are only my practices… What other good use did you find for zooming? Can you please share some of your ideas, your Prezi here?

We can add it all up, keep only the good ones, and place it into the Learn section on Prezi.com!

    Hi,

Beside the customization of fonts and colours, one thing is terribly missing to Prezi… The possibility to “script” the presentation and export it as a movie file…. Right now, the showcase can be only manual, by clicking on the arrow… So how to send to a client far away? You can still explain him how to navigate through the exhibition, but there are good chances he fucks up and lose the right frame display.

Please, please, please…. Add a way to script to send this lovely flash presentation into a windows media format…. So my client just sit back and enjoy!

Beside… Prezi is an awesome tool.

You can share the prezis for viewing with everyone, and you can also set them to simple navigation mode that means wherever you click the prezi will go forward. You can do these settings on the prezi’s landing page (the public link of your public prezi.

Hi! I’ve looked all over the manual and searched, but can’t find the answer to this question.

How do I control the way the zooming occurs in the path? I created a path from one view to the next, but I don’t want it to swirl around, I’d like it to just pan from one to the next. How do you specify what you see as you move along the path?

I’ve been working on this, my first, prezi for 3 full days now and can’t get this down. I would love your help!

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Sorry for getting back to you with such a delay. Rotating when zooming depends on the rotation of the element you can previously set with the Zebra tool. The basic horizontal line is your first view when you start to build the prezi. If you rotate an element according to the first view, the camera will turn and will show it horizontal as well. That is why you will see the camera rotating.

Hi, sorry for getting back to you with a delay. Your work might get lost because of excessive zooming. It just gets out of focus. Can you send the prezi URL to me in email? zoltan.radnai-at-prezi.com

  5. Just stumbled on to Prezi tonight and I’ve been fooling around with it for the last three hours already with my new paid account. I’m planning making the most of this. Very cool!

hi, i really like prezi , and i want to use it as much as i can in my presentations , but there is a big problem.
I am living in Iran , so i need to put some Persian(Farsi) words and i cant do it.
i wanna know is it possible to do that ? if not ask to do something for supporting Farsi .
    appreciate your help

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Hi, thanks for your interest! Do you think you could help us developing the Farsi style? We’d need easy to read free font sets for head, body and text. I can’t promise anything now, but such a help would boost the process. My email address is zoltan.radnai_at_prezi.com.

    Hi,

we are trying to use the Prezi we downloaded on our desktop and it is not centered. We’ve tried and the button in the lower right corner doesn’t seem to appear so we can center our Prezi. We are downloading it so we can use a logitech remote with it and need to get it centered, any suggestions?

  10. Rob says:

    Hello,

One of your Prezis, in particular, caught my attention: http://prezi.com/qrfe53wnpuiz/summer-guide/

Would you please explain how you are able to have your flv movies activate and play upon focus, and then stop when focus is moved to another object? I have been able to easily add .flv files to my prezi. But they all start at the same time and play concurrently. I’d like to have them play only upon focus, and then stop when User advances. Is this something that is done in Flash? Or is it done by some control within Prezi?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Now you can upload more video formats to Prezi not only FLV. Please read the related article in our Manual: http://prezi.com/learn/insert-video/ To have your video started when you step there in your talk, add the path directly to the video. It will start upon zooming on it with the camera and will stop as you move forward in your prezi.

    Hello there,

I am developing communication paradigms in different media and tried to apply some semantic design concepts to Prezi. If you are still looking for examples and tutorials on how to utilize Prezi I hope you will consider this little experiment:

Does anyone have tips for titling projects in such a way that you are able to retrieve the project with a search (without logging on). The reason I ask…I have my students complete prezis; but when I go online to find the projects, there doesn’t seem to be any methodical order to how the search results are displayed. Consequently…I have to sort through pages of projects to find those published by my students. Make sense? Help!
