Video: How To Use Apple Remote With Prezi

Written on May 21st, 2009, by Zoli Radnai

One of our users, Björn Syse has created an awesome screen capture video about how to re-calibrate the Apple Remote for Prezi control. Since we receive many emails about this matter, we think this is the best way to come up with an answer. We are developing our own methods to remote control Prezi anyway, but this solution does it’s share till. The software he used is iRed Lite, a free program that remaps your Apple Remote allowing to remote control any application on your mac, even a Prezi presentation.

We have seen a workaround before about how to convert the Apple Remote to a mouse and control Prezi. If you want the details pinpointed with stills and some written explanation, check Doug Belshaw’s blogpost here. Björn’s solution is different: his method allows direct control. Congratulations Björn, your video is ablsolutely amazing. Thanks!

  1. Thanks for this! I was afraid I’d have to give my prezi while clicking the trackpad on my laptop.

Hey, cool post. My Dad and I were discussing this just the other day, and he had some weird ideas! lol Are you going to extend this? I would love to learn more :)

Hi, this was posted to us by a young hacker, who had the solution about how to use the Apple remote with Prezi. This is not an official stuff. What are you interested in?

  3. Stuart says:

Is there some trick to getting this to work? I followed the video perfectly but my prezi (as a downloaded .app) does not respond….

I’m presenting in a few hours so any immediate response would be FANTASTIC!!!

Just to note, this video did not work for me. The “page down” and “page up” keystrokes made my prezi zoom in and zoom out.

I had to add “left” and “right” keystrokes (using the same method as the video) in order to have my prezi move forward and backwards on the path.

    Hope this helps others.

  5. great post thanks very much

This isn’t working for me, I followed all the steps… help!

  7. Shimon says:

Thanks!! after playing around with it for a while, it finally works!!

  8. Augusto says:

June’s advice worked for me. Just add the keystrokes for right and left :)

  9. Laura says:

    It worked…Thanks!

@June you were right, I had to use “Left” and “Right”. I truly appreciate your contribution.

    Laura

  10. Thanks…it took a while but it works. June’s advice was spot on.

  11. Robert says:

Just one thing to add that I had to figure out on my own: When I tried all this (including June’s caveat to add left/right commands), the active layer for iRed Lite is stuck on “iTunes” and there is no obvious way to change the layer to the “Prezi” layer. The way you do this is to hold down the Menu button on the remote and then hit the right arrow key. This browses through the available layers; just stop when you get to “Prezi” and you should be good to go. Hopefully this saves a few people 15-20 minutes of aimless experimentation!

  12. Emmanuel says:

I also had to take June’s advice to make it work. Thanks to all for contributing!

  15. jlp says:

Any idea how to assign a button to start playing a video that’s been embedded in the Prezi?

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Embedded videos have a standalone player in Prezi. They will autostart playing if added to the path.

      • Stijn says:

Is it possible to assign a button to start and pause the animations? my animations start automaticly by adding to the path, but is it possible to pauze them with the remote?

        • Zoli Radnai says:

          Hi,
if you don’t add the path to them you can start and stop them manually. This case however you have to use your mouse during the presentation.

  16. Raymond says:

    Thanks Robert,

I could have searced for ages, I’d never find it! Thanks al lot!
