We are super excited to announce that Prezi’s lead designer and co-founder Adam Somlai-Fischer has been nominated to the World Technology Award this year with collaborator Usman Haque in the category of Arts. The WTA in association with Time, Fortune and Science magazines are presented each year to the outstanding innovators of different fields of technology. Adam was nominated by the membership of the World Technology Network which is composed of over 1000 scientists, entrepreneurs, financiers, journalists, academics, policymakers, etc., and over 200 organizations/companies, spread out over 60 countries.
Winners will be announced on July 16, 2009, in New York, at the World Technology Awards gala ceremony.
Every year the WTA goes to individuals and companies/organizations who are doing the innovative work of “the greatest likely long-term significance” in their fields. Adam and Usman have worked on a number of collaborations experimenting with achitecture, spaces, interactivity, and the cultural aspects of new technologies. As architects and artists they believe that the domain of architecture is much more dynamic than it used to be. Mobile connectivity, people-centered design, contextual awareness, and interactive spaces are challenges and fields of new experiments for them.
Check out Adam’s works and peer productions at Aether.hu, and Usman’s website as well! The video below shows one of Adam’s recent work done with Usman and Bengt Sjölén, the Panoramic WiFi Camera which creates a live panoramic image of a space seen through radio signals as they bounce back form the architecture, composing an image, just as light would do:

WOW! Congratulations on your nomination. Really interesting work.
Huge fan of Prezi. I’m using it in the classroom and collaborating with some art teachers on visually meaningful presentations for students.
Any chance of an educator license for my classroom?
If not…no big deal – huge fan anyway. Gave it a huge plug on http://www.sospodcast.org tonight.
Thanks for Prezi.
