Less menus, more options. Easier text editing, upgraded Transformation Zebra and YouTube integration: the new editor has half the menus of its predecessor, while it has more features and a welcome video as a bonus.
See the complete feature list and changes after the jump. For detailed feature introduction, see the updated Prezi Manual or watch a prezi of all the changes complete with keyboard shortcuts!
Edit Mode:
- Text and Place modes have been merged into a single bubble called Write.
- Double click anywhere on the canvas to create new texts or edit existing ones.
- Click any object once to select it and use the Transformation Zebra tool.
- Text and paragraph styles are now shown and can be switched when a textbox is created/edited.
- Import YouTube videos by double-clicking to open a textbox, then paste in the YouTube video’s link.
Show Mode:
- Use Show mode to navigate and present your prezi.
- In Show mode all the menus, including the main menu, are set to autohide, and appear when you move your mouse near them.
- Use the UP and DOWN arrow, your scrollwheel, or the Zoom buttons for zooming while presenting, but not SPACEBAR, since it is the mode switcher key now. Press SPACEBAR while Editing to quit a submenu, press again to switch to Show mode, and again to switch back. You can do this forever, or even just hold down SPACEBAR, to enter Show mode temporarily as long as you release the key. Takes longer to describe than to do it: just go ahead and try it now.
- Use LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to step forward and backward while presenting.
- Full screen now can be reached from the Show menu as well as from the bottom-right Navigation tools.
Transformation Zebra:
There is a new button, a + sign, on Prezi’s emblematic editing tool indicating a new sub-menu: Bring Forward (previously Up), Send Backward (previously Down), Duplicate, Delete and Select more (add new objects to a group selection).
Path:
- Pressing Path will enable you to add an object to your path right away.
- Press Delete All to delete the whole path.
- New feature: Capture View, indicated by a camera icon, creates a bracket frame from the current view, and adds it to the end of the path.
Name changes:
- Style is now Colors & Fonts.
- Line menu is now called Shapes. You can find Shapes under the Insert menu.
- Media menu is now called Insert. You can upload a file to your prezi under Insert menu.
Hotkey changes:
- Pressing SPACEBAR serves as a toggle between Show and Edit mode. If you are in a sub-menu, pressing SPACEBAR takes you back to the main Bubble menu.
- Pressing and holding SPACEBAR will take you temporarily to Show mode. While there, you can navigate or click with the mouse, or use the LEFT/RIGHT arrows to move back and forth in the path the path. When you release SPACEBAR, you get back to Edit mode.
- ESC serves to remove fullscreen, if applicable.
- In Show mode the LEFT and RIGHT keys will move you on the path backward and forward respectively. UP and DOWN keys will zoom in and out. Zooming out with the DOWN arrow works as Smart Zoom: it brings you up to the next largest enclosing or crossing frame object.
- There are new shortcuts for some of the menu functions. The Frames menu can be reached by pressing ‘F’. Pressing ‘S’ takes you to Shapes menu. Loading a file is possible by pressing ‘L’ and Path menu can be reached by pressing ‘P’.
- You can use CTRL+D for duplicating an object, and you can use CTRL+Z, CTRL+Y and CTRL+S for Undo, Redo, Save respectively.
Other:
- Easy to reach Zoom Buttons help you at the right edge of the canvas.
- Undo/Redo, Save and Exit are now in the upper right corner, together with Help.
- There is a friendly welcome video when you open the new editor for the first time: it helps you get up and running in 3 minutes.
Feel free to play around with the new editor while retaining access to the old editor. You can choose which one to work with till February 8 — to avoid the stress of learning new features and names just before an upcoming presentation. On Feb 8, the old editor will permanently retire, and will have a nice poster in the Prezi Hall of Fame. Beware: once a YouTube video has been inserted, you can only open and edit your prezi with the new editor. We’re excited to get your feedback!

heyyy nice!!! Liked the new menu…. I’m not used to it yet, but it seems more user-friendly than before! Thks!
Youtube integration not working for me (MBP: Mac Os X 10.6.2, Safari Version 4.0.4 (6531.21.10))
Hi, we have just fixed it. Pls try again.
thanks for the bug report. could you please try now? we have just fixed it. sorry
The new editor is quite nice. It appears to address many of the usability issues that made the previous version sometimes hard to use. However, I can’t seem to upload any files from my desktop to the site. I continually get a ‘broken upload’ message.
nice and smooth youtube embed
Sziasztok!
Nekem is állandóan megszakad a feltöltés és üzeni, hogy hibás volt. Mi lehet a gond?
Üdv,
Hagymy
Kedves Hagymy,
Nem volt ilyen hibánk és visszajelzésünk. Lehet, hogy az internetkapcsolatával volt gond?
Seems nice. However, I have a problem. When I am trying to insert a new text i.e. “Write” I seem to be stuck in my former choice “Frame”, cause instead of opening a new text field I get another frame. I have tried several times now, but can´t get another textfield. Or am I doing something wrong?
Martin
Hi Martin,
Sounds very unusual, have you chosen “Write” in the menu? Or are you still in “Frame” mode?
the write function not working for me at all, double clicking doesnt do anything
This works much easier. But, now that this upgrade is finished a wish-list request for the next iteration: When you put a frame around items, it would be more useful is you could move the whole frame and items together to a new location instead of having to move each piece one at a time.
Thank you for the upgrade AND the new academic pricing!
Hi Janice,
You can use the “+” on the zebra for group selection or hold down shift and mark several items. Does that solve your problem?
Upgrade sounds good, but so far I’m not having a good experience. Text is not working at all for me. I double click to add text. I get nothing.
Hi, you should be in Edit mode to add text. First, click the biggest center bubble “Write”. Then double click anywhere on the canvas to have a new textbox open.
Thanks for the update. The a + sign was absolutely necessary.
Thanks!
Question: when will that be rolled out to the offline editor?
Hi, if you relaunch your offline editor, and log in, the update will perform automaticaly.
I can’t get passed the start up video to create a new prezi. Any suggestions?
Hi Lora,
You should click the X on the upper right corner of the video to close it. If you don’t want to see it again when creating a new prezi, uncheck the dedicated checkbox in the lower left corner of your video screen.
Hi there,
All changes look really nice to me. But how do i edit something that’s rotated? Formally, I used to click it, and than the view would tilt till the object is level in my view. Now it does not move when i click something.
A little help please.
Reinout
You have to go to show mode to zoom onto an object upon clicking it. Using the new editor the dedicated key is “space”.

Our presentation is broken now – says that the editor cannot be found… how do I correct this?
Hello, sorry for the inconvenience. have you created the prezi with the new or the old editor? Please try to open with the one you used to edit first. If you can’t proceed, please send me the URL to zoltan.radnai_at_prezi.com
The new gui menus are great! Great job. I have completely stopped using Powerpoint altogether. I had a 10 minute conversation the other day with a coworker about how much better Prezi is than PowerPoint.
I have a big presentation coming up for a program I created and I’ll be using Prezi to present it. I’m excited. I also love how simple things are and that I can access it anywhere without having to copy to a thumb drive.
Some suggestions might be:
-snap to a grid vertex
-feature to make other font sizes the same as existing. If you place text and then zoom in/out it’s hard to get the same font size when placing more text.
-copy/paste
Keep up the great work!!
Finally got the write feature to work, but it is very unreliable. I find that I usually have to right click and then click to get a text box to appear although this doesn’t always work. It is also very difficult to reselect a text object in order to edit it. The double click just doesn’t always work. Very frustrating.
Youtube insert works very nicely, but once I have inserted it, I have trouble selecting it to move or size it. It takes several tries until I just get lucky.
Also regarding Youtube videos, how can I get the play and pause bar to show up? Once I start a video, I can’t pause it.
Thanks.
when can prezi support korean?
10,000 years later????
Hi,
sorry we cannot do everything at once…:)
Overall, I liked the new menu setup.
Pros: very intuitive setup, overall ease of use
Con(s): the transformation zebra has trouble finding a bracketed frame (ie: to resize, change, or delete), still can’t figure out the zooming, as when I am in show mode, it will zoom in too much on the section I am looking to highlight, and won’t show all the info.
Is there any way you can edit a link without having that link open? I find that when I double-click on a link so that I can edit it, Prezi opens two windows for that link. I just want to edit the links independently of them opening up. Shouldn’t the “write” mode preclude opening the links altogether?
Hi Jody,
Sorry I don’t understand your point. You need to add /edit to your prezi URL-s to open the editor if you are logged in.
its super cool, exept i need mud for my prezi(its a school asinment). me and my friends love prezi!
The YouTube feature doesn’t work in Google Chrome either. I tried it in Firefox 3.5.7, and it worked like a charm. This is a great feature, it will save a lot of storage space.
Hi Lisa,
Under which OS you had the issue with Chrome?
I like the new features alot – Text editing is much better.
A few questions and suggestions:
What Happened to IDEAS format, which used to have the blue, orange, grey color scheme with a white background? I am finding the blue shaded background to be a bit distracting.
Specific Problems:
1. Sometimes the capital letter ‘O” does not appear.
2. Changing styles of an existing presentation requires a lot of work to shift text and views to be ready to represent (hence the problem of not keeping legacy styles active).
Suggestions:
1. Can we have different highlighter colors?
2. Can we have different line colors and weights (i.e., red, blue, black, grey, in a thin and thick line weight?
3. A Group/Ungroup feature would be wonderful. I know I can shift click to select, but when I want to keep a set of information together and go back and manipulate it, nothing beats group/ungroup.
4. It would be great to develop up to seven different storylines in the same prezi. One for Brief overview presentation, one for 15 minute presentation, one for a 45 minute presentation, one for a 1:20 presentation, and three for working themes (to use for group worksessions, to guide and document brainstorming sessions – which, of course, you will want to use portions of in the presentation stories).
5. Is there a way to copy pieces of information from one prezi to another?
What I am looking for here is the ability to truely use Prezi to create, mindmap, facilitate, collaborate, present, obtain and incorporate feedback, and continue the process….
Hi Toin,
Thanks for your feedback!
- we have updated our styles including the Ideas one.
1. in which style you see the “O” issue?
2. You mean style changing modifies the order of your prezi? This is caused by different style parameters. Some fonts are biger than others by default, and frames have diverse parameters too. I suggest to choose your style beore creating a very complex prezi. You can switch at the end of your work too, but indeed it might require some after-work then.
Suggestions:
1. This is not implemented in prezi now.
2. Same here
3. You mean a grouping feature that locks on your selection? Good idea!
4. Great idea too. You can work it around with adjusting the path each time you present, but there are better ways to do this I agree.
5. No.
we always listen to our authors when developing ideas, but cannot promise anything about non-existing features.
I am having a terrible time getting the write function to work. I double click and nothing happens. I assumed it was my computer at work, tried at home and still clicking 10+ times to get the window to open. Is it something I am doing wrong?
I really love all the other changes.
Hi Sally,
Have you clicked the “Write” bubble before double clicking? Can you see the grids? Are you sure you are in edit, not in show mode?
Might be a silly question (or already answered somewhere…), but are the insterted YouTube videos available in the offline presentation mode as well? Or they only work when the presentation goes online (or with an internet connection)? Thanks, and btw, the new editor makes it waaaaaay easier to create presentations!
Sorry, got the info – just had to read the manual…

What are implications of new editor for my desktop editor? Can I create/edit online and then download it to my desktop with no worries?
Hi Christie,
Yes you can synchronize your online and offline accounts easily in the desktop editor. Please try it free for 30 days signing up for a license on Prezi.com! Your desktop editor will automatically refresh to the new editor version when you open it.
The new version of Prezi does not allow me to save my presentation. When I hit “Save Now” it doesn’t do anything. Is this an issue with Prezi or my computer settings?
hi we had a bug related to this issue that we have already fixed. Do you still have the same problem?
Thanks for the new version, but could you please add transparent frames soon? It’s the feature I’m missing most at the moment. e.g. zooming in several areas of a picture makes the whole picture kind of “frame flooded” – thanks!
Hi Martin,
We have upgraded some styles in Prezi too. I think you can find ones now that have almost invisible frames.
Hi there,
Thx for the improvements. I also work with Vuvox. You better try to combine best of both worlds. Suggestions:
- make a standard library’s with symbols, pictures, frames etc
- let us choose our own fonts & colors
- let us create (hotspot)buttons with external weblinks
- make it posibel to use dynamic HTML or RSS
- let us add sound
Thx.
Emiel
Hi Emiel,
Thanks for your ideas! your list include things we are aware of, and we always listen to our user’s requests when developing, but I cannot promise to deliver all the features our users want. It would be interesting to learn how would you use these possibilities. For the sound: you can actually add sound when you convert it from mp3 to .flv first.
Where’s the print support? I want to be able to print these for leave-behinds. The screen capture work around method is too tedious.
Hi we don’t have a print support feature, but we are aware of this request.
Thnx for the great update! Love it
Prezi wás easy, now it’s even easier!
Keep up the good work!
Now I have tested.
The youtube embed doesnt work in desktop version.
And I dont like the autosave. I want to be able to test and not save. the should be a on or off for the autosave option.
Anyways great work.
Hi Zoli,
still need to get used to the changes. So far have difficulty: in full screen mode the arrow keys don’t work (actually no keys at all!) and when I click on an item, it’s zoomed in on but at the same time full screen mode is switched off. Then the arrow keys work again, but not in full screen mode!
Why have you created 2 new styles (night talk and loud manifesto) but removed others (e.g. the one with the red headlines, don’t know the name) – with only 6 or 7 styles being used by so many users it will become boring soon to see the same style over and over again in prezis (like Wordart in every second pizza leaflet, sorry!). So, why didn’t you just add the new ones.
The educational license, of course, is a good thing, but the new features haven’t convinced me so far.
Hi Gerd,
Full screen in show mode the left-right arrow keys should work, you need to add a path to walk through first. We have updated a few styles indeed, but left others intact. We haven’t removed styles from the list. Your suggestion is s common request and we are aware of that. Thanks for the feedback!
I like it so much, i can’t wait until the next semester begins.:)
Few more font color would come useful, red for example, maybe a theme editor, but it’s nearly perfect, simple, easy to use and fast.
Így tovább.:)
Very nice and creative, to expensive.
Hi Herbert,
You can use the Public license for free without any time or feature limitations.
I’m excited about the update to the sytem. Can’t wait to try it all out!!
I love this tool, thanks for making it available and making so many improvements. Is it possible to pause and control playback of Youtube videos?
many thanks!
Hi Steve,
thanks for your interest and feedback! Right now what you can do is click a YouTube video to pause and click again to launch again.
Great updates!
I just downloaded a 30 day trial version, but it was before the UPGRADES. Can I reupload it? Thanks.
Dstetar és Hagymy problémája nálam is fennáll, Download mintha megszakadna az egyharmadánál, a csomagolt fájl hibaüzenete Broken/sérült. Internetkapcsolatom egyébként rendben. Így hajnaltájt rosszul jött ez a hiba… Ötlet?
Szia,
it is good!
Dear Zoli,
I would like to ask, if there is a possibility to copy something in an other prezi? E.G. I don’t want to copy the whole prezit itself, but it would be great if I could copy a part of the prezi to another prezi.
Thank you for your answer.
(Azért írtam angolul, hátha mást is érdekel a kérdés.)
Hi,
This feature is not available in Prezi, still we are aware of the request!
Hi!
The new editor is mostly an improvement, esp. the cleaner look and faster handling of text
However, when PDF pages are imported into a prezi it slooows dooown sooo much. Why could that be?
Also: the new ‘capture view’ is nice, but a sub-option to chose from one of the 3 frame types is needed IMHO.
Keep up the good work
Zoli,
Several people, including me, have commented that the Write feature does not work properly. Your response has been to make sure you have clicked the Write bubble first. You should know that I have clicked the Write bubble. It DOES NOT WORK. For all of the others who are having this problem, I have worked around it by inadvertently discovering that if I right click and then left click I get a text box. However, reselecting the text for editing is virtually impossible. I have been recreating the text box if I need to edit it.
Also, the Youtube embedding is working great for me. This is a great feature, but I am not getting the Youtube controls, so I can’t pause, rewind, or stop a video once it is playing. Is there a way around this?
Thanks for your help.
Can you create invisible frames? i.e. insert a frame that is visible in edit mode but invisible in show?
Hi, unlike many others, the write function is working properly for me; however, when trying to add media, such as pictures to my prezi, they often do not show up. I am running FF v3.5.7 (I think I even attempted adding media using Safari without much consistent luck) and have had media upload issues in the past, but with another try the problem was often solved.
Additionally, when in playback mode (either using the URL or in showcase mode on the editor), my prezi is experiencing terrible flickering like a picture is on top of everything in my prezi and as I move through, you see variations of green. I cannot see this picture at all in my editor in order to delete it. I did notice after my attempts at getting the media to upload later a bunch of pictures kind of showed up enough for me to click on them and delete them, but there seems to still be one rogue picture that I cannot get rid of.
As for group/ungroup, I completely 2nd that notion, it would be GREAT to have because right now, shift/click is cumbersome when retooling my prezi with new ideas.
All-in-all, I love prezi and like the new updates with educational pricing (though, more color/font options would be great), so I will continue to plug through and hope my media bugs end before my big presentation next week!
After the problems with all the crashes I was having 10 seconds after starting Prezi Desktop… the problem has resolved itself after a general Adobe applications update this morning. After the updates from Adobe the opening video placed in the new or existing Prezi file launched without problems. If you are have problem like me make sure all your Adobe apps are updated.
Glad this was easy to resolve and I’m enjoying all the Prezi updates to the new Prezi (Well done!). Of course I’m saddened to see that there is neither an invisible frame or an opacity control from frames in this update.
OK, a simple feature request, but this is big, BIG, B-I-G!!! (Or perhaps it’s already done and I just don’t know about it) There is no way to go back to the BEGINNING of the Prezi without hitting the arrow key over and over and over. It might not seem like much, but it is.
Even better, there should be someway to stop the Prezi, click on the appropriate point and then start from there. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been stopped in a presentation and had to jump around to answer questions.
That’s my two cents.
Hi, you can get back to the beginning of your prezi by pressing and holding the backwards arrow and then click the U turn arrow that will appear.
No time to try it yet but it looks promising.
The problem Marsha mentioned happened to me with the old editor as well. Some text just becomes uneditable for some reason.
Also, are there plans to provide some kind of print feature, printing out some sort of handouts for students/audience?
Thanks for all the wonderful work so far.
