New Release Features: Educational License, Reuse, Learn Center

Written on January 24th, 2010, by Zoli Radnai

Besides the new editor, we introduce three additional features today:

  1. Educational license: long-awaited feature requested by students and educators.
  2. Prezi Reuse: share a copy of your prezis with others to use as a template.
  3. New learn center: multimedia lessons and a community space to share your thoughts.

See how these shiny new things work after the jump!

Educational License

In response to a growing demand, (read the open letter to the Prezi CEO, demanding a school license) we developed an educational license pack. Students and teachers can now create private prezis for free. They can have Prezi Desktop at a special price. Upon verification of student/teacher identity, Prezi EDUEnjoy is free and Prezi EDUPro comes with a special educational discount.

edulicenses_blogpostIf you are a teacher/student and already use Prezi:

Have a Public account? – upgrade to EDUEnjoy for free.

Have an Enjoy account? – upgrade to EDUPro for free! (Enjoy and EDUPro have the same price: $59. As an Enjoy user, you need to provide your credit card data to buy EDUPro, since it’s a different product. You can start using it straight away without being charged. In accordance with our recurring payment system, you will be charged $59 when your current license expires).

Have a Pro account? – You can switch to EDUPro once your current license expires. Cancel your subscription by hitting the “Cancel” button on your settings page. You can use your current account during the remaining time of the year. Once it expires, go and sign up for EDUPro!

Prezi Reuse

This new feature allows you to offer a copy of your prezis to everyone for content remixing. If you have a Public license, the reuse option is checked by default when you create a new prezi. Of course, you can uncheck it with a click to keep your content from being accessible by others. If you have an Enjoy or Pro license, you can share your published prezis for reuse by marking the dedicated checkbox. You can find prezis offered for remix in the reuse library.

Save a copy of interesting prezis, and use them as templates for your own work!

Why will you like this?

  1. It’s easier to get inspired as you play around with an existing prezi, replacing texts and images as you build your version.
  2. Build a prezi just 10 minutes before a meeting: search for a prezi in the Reuse Library, save a copy to your own account, and replace the content.
  3. Don’t end the loop: offer your version for further reuse! The result will be a growing database of diverse open knowledge.

New Learn Center

Prezi Learn Center - Become a Pro!When building our new learn center, we had three goals in mind:

  1. Collect all written and multimedia information on one page.
  2. Offer step-by-step, detailed lessons for authors on different experience levels about how to use Prezi. Video and prezi introductions, guides, walkthroughs, and how-tos now live in the Prezi Academy.
  3. You provide great feedback on our community forums, and we are happy to take this to the next level. Live From Prezi Universe is a new, dynamic section to share tips and tricks, read inspirational Prezi experiences, and get advice from professionals.

Hello, I’m a Japanese highschool student, and no, I don’t have an educational e-mail address. How should I register?

I do think the e-mail system is ok, but I suggest making it possible to register with your ISIC number ^^? just a thought.

  2. As someone who is both a student and a public speaking addict, this is the greatest news I’ve seen in a long time. Prezi is the premiere tool for making totally awesome presentations, and now I can use it more for less. When someone like myself gets to a position where they can spend money on your product, you can bet loyalty like this will be considered in the budget =)

  3. I would like to say “wow” what a inspiring post. This is really a great article. Keep doing!!

  4. I’m greatly appreciative for the time to thisztopic that has been expertly presented to us in this post. I found your site on the Bing search engine and am very likely to subscribe to your RSS Feed if I see more content like this as I search through your archives.

I would like my students (aged 12-15) to be able to sign up for an account. Do you still have the condition that prezi is only available to 18 year olds and over? My educational authority will not allow us to involve our students in this wonderful learning tool if this is still the case. Thank you!

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Hi, yes prezi is 18+ legally. Please read our terms of use for more. http://prezi.com/terms-of-use/

      • David says:

Your Terms of Use and your above post clearly state a minimum age of 18. However, your FAQ states “You can use Prezi if you are under 18 years old and older than 13 years and have obtained consent from your parent, teacher or school (or other guardian).” (http://prezi.com/learn/faq/)

Please clarify the age requirements. If the FAQ page is correct about parents/teachers/school for ages 13 to 18, it would be helpful if your Terms of Use included this information.

        • Zoli Radnai says:

Hi, thanks for your interest. Please send an email to copyright_at_prezi.com. Our colleagues will provide you all the necessary information about our ToU.

  6. Roxie Garrison says:

Does the Education License apply to instruction in public libraries either for the public or for staff? Also, does it apply to outreach presentations, for example to employment centers. schools, small business development centers during which the free tools of the public library are demonstrated or talked about?
Thank you for your help with this.

  7. Roxie Garrison says:

Opps, wasn’t clear before — basically my question is: do public library staff qualify for the Education License since life-long learning is a part of our mission?

  8. Kiyoshiro says:

Earlier I wrote a bit more about ISIC, but it was apparently moderated. I wonder why “Free Best Buy Gift Card” wasn’t moderated. -_-

Anyway, information about the ISIC card can be obtained at http://www.isic.org
Several companies, including microsoft, offer special services for ISIC card holders (software for free, etc).
The main function of the card, however, is that you can be eligible for student discounts all over the world.

The site claims that there are “4.5 million card holders”, and I think it might be a great way to get Prezi known to students around the globe :)

  9. Liz Alexander says:

I have a middle-school and an elementary-school student who i would love to get involved with the educational version of Prezi. Is this possible? They aren’t issued email addresses by our public school

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Hi, you can create educational email addresses with gaggle.net. We accept Gaggle email addresses. About legal considerations please email copyright_at_prezi.com.

  10. I wish that I had “PREZI” when I was growing up and going to school! I think that Prezi can help teacher’s instruct their classes a lot better than they would if they did not have such a program to enhance their teaching ability’s…

    Sincerely,

    Thomas Anderson

  11. Daniel Lewi says:

Thanks for the info, now I’ll know.

  12. Hi

The educational license ‘pro’ pack is the only one I find that provides the desktop editor. For $59 looks good value – although it is not clear if this is a site license, or $59 per user per year. One is very very cheap, the other much to much to expensive.

What is not clear – does the desktop version work if installed onto a computer without the (students) registering for its use using an email account?

Essentialy – we would love to use Prezi in our school, but not if students have to register, wait for a response, etc. before they can get going. It needs to be as easy to use as (for example) Open Office Impress is.

  13. Inma says:

I have a problem. I upgraded my prezi to student account, and now I cannot edit my prezi, and it is not finished! It say: editor for educational purposes only. How can edit my prezi now?

  14. Rodrigo Bohrt says:

Hey que tal lm student of Bolivia, i just want to know if you acept credit cards of my country ?? Please i will be waiting thanks

  15. Tim W says:

    Hello there,
I am just wondering about the Edu Enjoy license.
You mentioned that we will be charged $59 when the license expires, what do you mean by this? Do we eventually have to pay $59? How do we know when will our license expires?

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Prezi paying licenses come with a yearly recurring payment system. Your credit card will be chaged when you purchase the account, and then a year later it will be automatically charged again unless you cancel your account is the meantime. Of course you get an email notifying you about the expiration and next charge a few days before your account expires.

      • Tim W says:

So with the EduEnjoy account, it is free for students with email for educational institutions, correct? My question is, how long will this license work? Is it free on the first year only or does it expire sometime later?

  16. Lika says:

    Hi there,

I just got the gaggle.net email-address verified and all. Still, I am unable to register for edu enjoy. Could you please indicate the proceedings to me? I have been logged in with the gaggle.net address.

    Thanks

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Hi Lika, can you please provide your educational email address so we could check? Also Does our system accept your email address or not? have you received a confirmation email of the registration?

  17. Melissa Martin says:

Do you have institutional site license pricing yet? I am a professor at a large university and several people in my department are interested in haveing PreziDesktop capability. It doesn’t seem to make sense that we should all pay individually. Any information you might have on a site license (or at least multiple user license) would be great!

    Thanks!

  18. Seth says:

I tried getting an edu-enjoy account but I can’t! They say I need an Educational Institute Domain, my schoool does not provide me an ID! What can I do?

  19. I would lie to upgrade to EDUpro, but will it be save to providing my credit card data?
This seems a silly question, but many people have the same problem with mine.

Anyway, thanks for the post, cheers,

    Lilian

  20. Rachel says:

I have an edu address as I am a teacher. How can I access the log in as a teacher?
    Thanks!

  21. I just learned about Prezi today and I found it is a very interesting tool. With this educational license it can definitely helps a lot of teachers and students to improve their teaching and learning!

Hi I am using the free version on Prezi for a school project that is due in 2 months. I was wondering if the free version expires at a certain point and will make me pay. Because I don’t want to lose the work I’ve done…Thanks!

  23. Well, i am also using free version but wish i could get the premium version someday.

  24. [...] “Thanks for the mention in your piece on Prezi. Thought you and your readers may like to know (if you haven’t already heard the buzz!) about our new release, which includes a free Education License, updated editor with ability to easily add YouTube videos, and Reuse feature with a library of reusable prezis! http://blog.prezi.com/2010/01/24/new-release-features-educational-license-reuse-learn-center/“; [...]
