New Release Features: Educational License, Reuse, Learn Center

Written on January 24th, 2010, by Zoli Radnai

Besides the new editor, we introduce three additional features today:

  1. Educational license: long-awaited feature requested by students and educators.
  2. Prezi Reuse: share a copy of your prezis with others to use as a template.
  3. New learn center: multimedia lessons and a community space to share your thoughts.

See how these shiny new things work after the jump!

Educational License

In response to a growing demand, (read the open letter to the Prezi CEO, demanding a school license) we developed an educational license pack. Students and teachers can now create private prezis for free. They can have Prezi Desktop at a special price. Upon verification of student/teacher identity, Prezi EDUEnjoy is free and Prezi EDUPro comes with a special educational discount.

edulicenses_blogpostIf you are a teacher/student and already use Prezi:

Have a Public account? – upgrade to EDUEnjoy for free.

Have an Enjoy account? – upgrade to EDUPro for free! (Enjoy and EDUPro have the same price: $59. As an Enjoy user, you need to provide your credit card data to buy EDUPro, since it’s a different product. You can start using it straight away without being charged. In accordance with our recurring payment system, you will be charged $59 when your current license expires).

Have a Pro account? – You can switch to EDUPro once your current license expires. Cancel your subscription by hitting the “Cancel” button on your settings page. You can use your current account during the remaining time of the year. Once it expires, go and sign up for EDUPro!

Prezi Reuse

This new feature allows you to offer a copy of your prezis to everyone for content remixing. If you have a Public license, the reuse option is checked by default when you create a new prezi. Of course, you can uncheck it with a click to keep your content from being accessible by others. If you have an Enjoy or Pro license, you can share your published prezis for reuse by marking the dedicated checkbox. You can find prezis offered for remix in the reuse library.

reuse_blogpost

Save a copy of interesting prezis, and use them as templates for your own work!

Why will you like this?

  1. It’s easier to get inspired as you play around with an existing prezi, replacing texts and images as you build your version.
  2. Build a prezi just 10 minutes before a meeting: search for a prezi in the Reuse Library, save a copy to your own account, and replace the content.
  3. Don’t end the loop: offer your version for further reuse! The result will be a growing database of diverse open knowledge.

New Learn Center

Prezi Learn Center - Become a Pro!When building our new learn center, we had three goals in mind:

  1. Collect all written and multimedia information on one page.
  2. Offer step-by-step, detailed lessons for authors on different experience levels about how to use Prezi. Video and prezi introductions, guides, walkthroughs, and how-tos now live in the Prezi Academy.
  3. You provide great feedback on our community forums, and we are happy to take this to the next level. Live From Prezi Universe is a new, dynamic section to share tips and tricks, read inspirational Prezi experiences, and get advice from professionals.

You can also check the updated Manual for further guidance. If you can’t find an answer to your questions anywhere in the Learn Center, visit our community forums for personal support!

  1. Excellent news – and thank you for both listening to your end-users and responding with a sensible pricing structure for educational establishments. I couldn’t ask for more :-)

  2. Thank you for taking requests from teachers and creating the educational option for students. I think Prezi has some really great possibilities for young writers, as much as presenters, and I hope teachers can integrate it into their schools.

  3. Michael Flower says:

When I mentioned the old price structure during curriculum meetings with my faculty colleagues, discussions came to a halt. No amount of cajoling on my part got us past the cost. I can now renew those talks. I want to add my “thanks” to those already on this page (and to the other “thanks” from educators that will surely follow as the news spreads). I’m also impressed with the thoughtful changes in the new Prezi editor. If I didn’t have so much other work to do today I could give the editor a whirl; that will have to wait.

  4. Callum Marshall says:

I am a mathematics teacher and have enjoyed using Prezi in situations where I do not need to enter mathematical formulae into my presentation. As a maths teacher this is however a fairly big draw back about using Prezi, if I can’t enter mathematical expressions and equations easily – like using MathType for instance – then as a presentation tool it’s not really so useful. So, is there a plan to make it possible to enter mathematical expressions using Prezi in the near future – please?

    • Zoli Radnai says:

      Hi Callum,

As we have said before we are aware of the request for LaTex or other mathemathical language support development in Prezi. Right now I cannot promise anything to you about this though. Please keep in touch, we always listen to our author’s voices when we develop new features.

  5. John Patten says:

Are there special directions for upgrading and existing users account for Edu Licensing? Your form for upgrading errors with “that username already in use.” :-)

    Thanks!

    • Zoli Radnai says:

      Hi John,

This happened because you attempted to register again. You don’t need to register again for an EDU license, just upgrade your existing account.

  6. Good news. How wiil be the verification of student/teacher identity

    Thanks

  7. Charles Chan says:

Another BIG thank you from another educator. I use it everyday in my high school English classes!

  8. Charles Chan says:

Another BIG thank you Prezi from another educator. I use Prezi everyday in my high school English classes and it has helped me to integrate technology seamlessly into my classroom.

Prezi has also caught on with my students. A student of mine used Prezi for the first time in a French class presentation and shared with me afterwards that other students were “wow’d” by his “Prezintation”, even the French teacher had a smile on her face! Another student used Prezi for the first time and excitedly came to find me after school to tell me all about it!

  9. Lora Davis says:

How can I get prezi for my school presentations?

  10. Suzanne says:

Wicked AWESOME!! Thank you for making it free for teachers and students. And now that the interface has become more user-friendly, NO MORE BORING DULL SLIDESHOWS! All my students will be required to use PREZI! THANKS!

    It’s so beyond cool – It’s ICED!

  11. Dan Gross says:

While I had heard of Prezi, I haven’t tried it. There seems to be enough buzz around this, that I will give it a try and decide if we’ll extend this knowledge throughout our district to our teachers.

    Thank you for this opportunity.

  12. Diana Stirling says:

Will librarians be eligible for the educational discount, too? I am a public librarian, but I’m working on a presentation that will be given for both public and school librarians. I also have a need to do educational programs for patrons.

    Thanks.

  13. [...] great news this week is that Prezi has released educational accounts. Previously all prezis had to be public. Now schools have the chance for students to use Prezi, [...]

  14. I get the following message while attempting to upgrade my Prezi account to EDU on http://prezi.com/profile/signup/edu/, “This license is valid only for active students and teachers.” Is there any verification method available?

    Thanks.
Great job with the new updates, by the way.

  15. I have changed to my school email address. Are the EDU accounts available for students outside of US?

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Hi, if you have an educational email address that matches the domain of your school’s home page, we can set it, even if it’s not an .edu address given that it’s not from the US. This case please send me an email to zoltan.radnai_at_prezi.com

  16. Jack Beckman says:

I already have a public account but wanted to upgrade to Enjoy. When I attempted to complete the form, it would not take my college email address saying it was already in use.

How can I upgrade to enjoy alternately?

Thank you. Prezi is a blast to use. Much better than the trad. presentation approaches.

    Jack Beckman

    • Zoli Radnai says:

      Hi Jack,

this could happen because you tried to register to Enjoy instead of upgrading. You could not register again since your email address is already in use with your current account. If you just upgrade when previously logged in the system will accept your email.

  17. Marlene says:

I would like to switch to the free educational account. I work in the seminary at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK.

    • Zoli Radnai says:

No problem here. Please use your educational email address to upgrade to an EDU license. Please note that the email address has to match your school domain.

  18. I’m having difficult because my email is .net and my school’s address is .org. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and what a fabulous product!

  19. Wow, I cannot tell you how glad I am you made these improvements. I searched high and low when I was creating my Prezi to figure out how to ZOOM…then that auto zoom out when clicking on the Prezi got me so off into a ditch I had to totally start from scratch on my Prezi just so I could get the ZOOM right. I’m so glad in your video you have mentioned both having the new zoom in/out on the grid as well as the mouse ball. That was a huge missing link for me until I finally figured it out and it could have saved me hours of frustration. The video was spot on and your new LEARNING PREZI is perfect. It really gets to the level of detail that I was needed you to explain things at. Very good job!! A+.

  20. After entering my school’s website url, I get a message that says my website and email address endings do not match and it will not let me continue? How can I update?

  22. Thanks!!!!!
I’m TIC manager’s Colegio Altamira, Chile, latinamerica.
We used Prezi for many presentations. Good news.

  23. Lux says:

How about some of that generosity for Non Profit startups?
Hopefully, we’ll see an NP-Enjoy edition soon.

  24. edMaga says:

Hey thank you for making it free to students/teachers, I’ve been reading a little about Prezi and I think it will be of big help when presenting college projects.

    Thank you!

  25. Szűcs Endre says:

    Dear Prezi team
Recently I started to use Prezi in my classes. For now I am more than satisfied with it, however I only managed to obtain the demo version which expires within a month. Since I intend to use Prezi in the future, I would like to ask you to allow me to use a free version for education purposes.

  26. Carlos Franco says:

If Prezi software manual was in spanish too, will be better to others users.
    Thanks.

  27. Mike Hobbins says:

    Dear Zoli,

I have tried to upgrade from a Public account to the now free EduEnjoy account, but when I input my school’s email address a red message appears saying that the address is already in use.
Am I doing something wrong or can suggest some way of getting around this issue.

    Many thanks,

    Mike

  28. A great idea – unfortunately none of our students or staff have email addresses that match with the school’s website, so we cannot take advantage of this. I think this is likely to be the case for the majority of schools in the UK, whose students and teachers access email through a learning platform that has standardised email addresses. Any suggestions…?

  29. Lily says:

It’s so cool and can help me express myself easier . lol
Thank you for your new ideas.

  30. Excellent news, can I assume that emails without the .sch.uk address but with the ac.uk (equivalent to .edu in the states) will also be accepted ?

  31. [...] “Thanks for the mention in your piece on Prezi. hi, this really fantastic for present but i have problem for download it becase speed download in iran is low plese help me

  33. I am an elementary school teacher and want EACH of my students to create a prezi. I wish there was a way that I could create separate users within my EduEnjoy account. If I can’t do this, does EACH student need a separate e-mail which they then need to use to have their own account? And, can they have an EduEnjoy account too?

    • Zoli Radnai says:

      Hi Bruce,

Thanks for this question! Your students can create free Enjoy accounts for themselves, the point of making this license was partly to allow every student to create private presentations for free. You cannot create separate users under one account though.

  34. [...] Due to an overwhelming request for “educator” accounts, the company has responded with an enhanced account just for teachers and students.  You can learn more and sign up here. [...]

  35. Erin says:

    Hi,

I work in international schools and I switch locations. My educator-email address changes every few years. When I switch schools, can I re-register my new educator-email and transfer my previously created Prezis? Do I have to start all over from scratch with a new educator account?

I just upgraded my personal Prezi account to an educator account and I’m afraid of losing my work in the future.

    Thanks Prezi team!

    Erin

    • Zoli Radnai says:

      Hi Erin,

You are right, this is a real issue. What you can do is to register a free personal account too, and share all your prezis with your other account for editing when you switch your edu accounts. You will have to sign up for the new educational account once you have new login data.

  36. [...] Prezi, now gives FREE Education Licenses and Reusable Templates Prezi, now gives FREE Education Licenses and Reusable Templates Last week Prezi announced new free accounts for teachers and students. Judging by the tweets lots of teachers are interested in using Prezi. But as I discovered when I first learned about Prezi, the learning curve for creating presentations is pretty steep.  And now there is a collection of free templates that you can use and adapt for your needs.  I think I can use this tool now.  I love the finished product, but before the templates, I wasn’t finding it useful. 37. Salah says:

    Hi;

I’m lecturer in a French college. In France we don’t have the edu tld.
Could we use your Educational license with a domain that doesn’t include .edu once you validate it as a domain of a university or a college?
    FYI: the domain is UHA.fr

    Thanks

    • Zoli Radnai says:

      Hi Salah,

Of course you can. Just use your school domain and your matching school hosted email address to verify your identity. If you cannot succeed, please send your data to me in email to zoltan.radnai_at_prezi.com.

  38. Tatiana says:

I must have registered at some point under this e-mail and now I am trying to get the Educational version but I am getting a “this e-mail is already used” message. Can you please adjust this so that I can start using the program and exposing my Business Presentations to it – thank you.

    • Zoli Radnai says:

      Hi Tatiana,
If you get the “already in use” message, you likely tried to register your edu email address for the EDu license, while all you should do is to upgrade. Please log in first with your emil address, then press upgrade on the license page.

  39. Khru says:

I am a teacher but I don’t have a .edu email account. I might be able to get an email from the school but it ends with .co.th as this school is in Thailand.

Can I avail of the .edu promotion?

    Thanks,

    Khru

    • Zoli Radnai says:

Sure you can. All you need is a school email adress that matches your school domain. Please send me your email address and your school website address in email to zoltan.radnai_at_prezi.com

  45. Brendan says:

Hi, i have just signed up for an education account and would like my students to sign up as well. Our students at the school only have personal email accounts (yahoo, gmail, homtail. etc) how do i get them signed up?

  46. Shaughn O'Neal says:

I created an educator account. I would like my students to create an account also. However, they can not receive email from outside of the school. They will not be able to verify their account. When I was registering it said teachers could create or register students with a bulk email. I can not find any information on this anywhere. How can I get my students to create an account?

  47. Chester says:

Hi, I work as a systems integrator for a school board and support teachers and curriculum folks in using new technologies such as prezi to deliver course content.

I am not a teacher or a student, but can I sign-up for ‘edu-enjoy’ account in order to properly promote and support this wonderful tool?

I have a matching school district email and district web site. Do I simply sign-up with these?

    Hi,
maybe you know, in Hungary the students haven’t got school TDL e-mail addresses everywhere. What will happen, if I have upgraded with my own e-mail to EduEnjoy?

    • Zoli Radnai says:
