Contest: Find Hidden New Feature, Win a 1-Year Pro Subscription!

Monday, March 15th, 2010

We’re ready to release a new feature in the Prezi editor this week, and we want you to name it.
Oh…and for the sake of excitement, you have to find the new feature by exploring the online Prezi editor. We’ll give you a hint: it’s not a spectacular something, still it will be very important in the future.

Rules:

To enter the contest, add the following experimental extension to any prezi URL: http://prezi.com/************/edit/experimental/guess-what

Every contest needs a reward, right? So, the first Prezi author to send an email to contest@prezi.com with a screenshot, name for the feature and a short feature description will win a 1-year Prezi Pro upgrade!

The contest starts now. It lasts for one week only, so start zooming! We accept submissions between 00:00 Monday March 15. PST and 00:00 Monday March 22. PST.

The winner will be introduced in the next Prezi newsletter at the end of the month, and also here on the blog. We’ll post hints to our Twitter account @prezi two times during the contest, so keep your eyes open!

New: Full Control Over YouTube Videos

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Embedding videos to a presentation can give extra value to a talk. Film is indubitably the most powerful story telling tool, choosing to present your ideas with the aid of an embedded video can add a dramatic effect to your topic. We kept this in mind when we have developed YouTube integration to Prezi. Many presentation tools can handle video files, you can upload them from your hard drive to the presentation. With Prezi, you can do this too of course. However it was a logical step for Prezi – an online presentation tool – to go beyond this approach and offer a much simpler and faster solution.

Embedding YouTube videos to prezis opens new possibilities for the presenter. You just need to create a new textbox by double clicking the canvas, then paste a YouTube video URL and press OK. That’s it. Should it be a spectacular ballroom presentation that you have created to stun your audience, or a business meeting where you need to deliver hardcore data and information, this option always comes handy.

Our recent upgrade allows you to play, pause, adjust and control the volume of embedded YouTube videos right in the editor or in show mode while you present. Prezi’s new navigation bar for YouTube videos is a feature we have just released, so check the screencast below, and try it out with your editor now!

Test New, Smoother Camera Movements

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Based on the feedback we receive from Prezi authors, we have added new, smoother camera movements between elements when playing or showing a prezi. Check the video above. The first half was created with the version now available for the public, while the second half was recorded using the yet experimental new camera movements feature. Do you want to test the new anti seasickness effect?

Here is what you should to do to try this out:

Add an experimental extension to any prezi URL like this: http://prezi.com/************/edit/experimental/eagle

Please note that your prezis created in experimental mode will loose beta enhancements once you play them without the experimental URL.

We can’t wait to have your feedback, and experiences about this.

Dear Prezi Authors,

We’ll have to unplug Prezi.com this Sunday, February 28th from 10-12am CET (08:00-10:00am UTC), due to arrival of some exciting new cargo (so keep a close eye on the blog).

During the process, our online services will be unavailable. This means:

1. You won’t be able to reach Prezi.com, the online editor,
2. You can’t login or reach your online Prezis from PreziDesktop (offline editor available for Pro users).
3. You can still edit, and export presentations with PreziDesktop in offline mode (since the software is not necessarily connected to the internet).
4. Of course you can even show your Prezis during downtime, if you have previously downloaded them to your computer.

We will try to make this as painless as possible. Our most effective weapon to achieve this goal is transparency and support.

For this reason, we welcome your comments on @prezisupport on Twitter while our data center is offline. Once the upgrade has finished, we will notify you immediately on the blog and on Twitter as well.

One Night in Bangkok: TEDxBKK 2010

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Zoltan Radnai at TEDxBKK by TEDx BKK

Many of you only know Prezi’s Community Manager, Zoli Radnai, through tweets, support emails, and his regular postings here on the Prezi blog. However, the invitation to participate in TEDx BKK 2010 brought this behind-the-scenes guy into the limelight. The event was held on February 13, 2010 at Ruamrudee International School’s Performance Art Center in Bangkok and included a range of speakers on this year’s theme of Minds Wide Open. Zoli represented us in Thailand with a prezi about…Prezi!

Upon his return, Zoli entertained the Prezi team with a fabulous trip report about his nights (and days) in Bangkok which included: seeing 3 prezis in action at the event, giving Prezi worshops in local schools, meeting a diverse bunch of very cool people, and being graciously hosted by @RobinThailand. Zoli plans to write another post about his experiences soon, so watch out!

Guest Post: Prezi the Compromise Breaker

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Marketing and presentation expert and author of Advanced Presentations by Design Dr. Andrew Abela developed a very interesting approach to design and deliver presentations. He calls it the Extreme Presentation method, and it’s a way to develop effective communication of complex information to a well targeted audience.

Intro Sequence PM 2010-10-25

He differentiates two major types of presentations: “If you’re trying to present a big idea, to wow people, or to entertain them, then you should deliver a Ballroom style presentation: projecting great visuals, with few words. But if you’re trying to persuade people to do something: buy, approve, invest, change behavior, etc., then you need to deliver a Conference Room style presentation: lots of details on printed slides which pass the squint test”

We are very proud to learn that Dr. Abela believes that Prezi is one technology that can actually bridge the gap between the two different kinds of presentations. In his recent blogpost he uses demo prezis to give examples of how to create great presentations of each kind then concludes: “(Prezi)…is one of the best communication technologies to come along in a very long time”

TEDxDubai 2010 To Be The First Prezi Only TEDx event

Monday, February 1st, 2010

TEDx conferences are independently organized TED events following the original philosophy of introducing interesting speakers and ideas worth spreading. Prezi is often used as an optional presentation tool at these conferences. Giorgio Ungania, organizer of TEDX Dubai have now decided to go even further. He wants to create the first TEDx where every speaker will have to utilize Prezi as a presentation tool. They will build their own TEDx Prezi style, and to boost the process, create a little academy where speakers will be trained on how to use Prezi.

Screen shot 2010-01-29 at 12.15.45 PMOn the top of that Giorgio plans to make every TEDxDubai prezi available for sharing & remixing, with our new Reuse feature, and on the TEDx Dubai website they will post the video recording of the talks together with the relevant Prezi. Becoming excited about all this, we asked Giorgio about hows and whys after the jump.
