New editor enhancements
Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 2:31AM

We have implemented new features in the editor that make it easier to add text, move around elements and manage your growing prezi while zooming and panning. Let's see what's new:
1. Move objects around simply by dragging them with your mouse. No need to click on them and use the zebra.
2. Just click anywhere and start typing to add text. Double click still works, and is used to edit existing texts.
3. The "Escape" key of your keyboard just became smarter:
- pressing esc while typing finishes the text edit session and closes the textbox.
- pressing esc while the Zebra is over an object makes the Zebra disappear
4. Lock elements with zooming (photo above): as you zoom in and out and items get tiny or huge, they will fade out and get "locked". They will behave like the background (you cannot drag them or select them but you can write on them). Unlocking is easy: just zoom to the opposite direction. Hitting the "shift" key (for multiselect) or multiselect by the zebra "+" menu option unlocks every object
(locking is disabled in show mode, you won't see faded objects while presenting)

I don't understand locking.
Thanks for these features :-) After playing around a few minutes, I think they improve the editor's usability.
Nice, especially the ability to just drag stuf around with first having to 'summon' the zebra is a Big enhancement!
Hi Zoli,
I appreciate Prezi always improving the editor but these changes are not welcome from my side:
- I already moved several objects by mistake while I wanted to move the whole Prezi.
- Each time I move the Prezi, when I stop moving it, I mean I stop the mouse and stop clicking, my Prezi continues to move.
- Much worse is the fact that Prezi my computer is hardly running now that I edit a Prezi with the new editor. Moves are not smooth at all, it's like looking at a YouTube video with a 56k Internet connection. I've got a MacBook Air that's been 2 years old since... today! I don't want to change my computer just because Prezi becomes heavier. I've experienced this with Microsoft for about 20 years.
- And now, I get a message telling me that my Prezi is too heavy and I've got to enlarge tiny elements or reduce large ones. This Prezi is months old. Am I getting improvement or regression?
Thank you again for your work on Prezi but please keep it simple, light and working.
By the way: I'll present tomorrow afternoon (5 hours long) in Budapest using Prezi. :-)
Excellent! Can't wait to play with the new features.
Cool...
Prezi is just.... awesome....
I like the "ESC" key feature...
All the new features help big time... keep up the good work..
I've got to say that the auto-lock thing is pretty annoying. I've got to move in to unlock the object, then move out again before being able to see the place where I want to put it.
Given the fact that my computer is lagging a lot when I use Prezi, it is a time-wasting behaviour. I've been waiting for a lighter Prezi for 1 year and a half now. And it's always becoming heavier. Sorry to comment this way, guys. I love your product but it's harder and harder to stuck with it.
This'll help out a lot! thanks a bunch! It took a bit to get used to but it's def cool! :)
Nice improvements to an already excellent resource. Thanks
Thanks for the improvements. Nice locking effect. What I am however really missing is the possibility to move objects which form part of a frame to any new location on the canvas at one stroke (thus allow to freeze objects in the frame and then have them moved all together. Many thanks for your consideration!
The details on the locking feature were not quite clear to me in terms of how to utilize it. Might want to do a short vid on that one.
sweet, thanks.
Can you add file sizes to your prezi page for each prezi listed?
This is not helpful at all. I can't even select on objects because I have to zoom to the exact magnification I first edited it, which is very difficult especially if you've got loads of different objects of different sizes. I can't find and/or remember which magnification I create objects in. And the shift key doesn't work for unlocking objects either, I still can't seem to select an object to edit.
Thank you guys. The enhancements are subtle, but I've found they make a world of a difference. Editing is much more seamless, snappy, and efficient for me. Keep up the excellent work!
Help! I am working on moving around some frames and I cannot get the new editor to select my shapes and frames -- they are just gray no matter how much I zoom or if I select shift, then click. Advice??
Arrived to do a presentation last night and found that my Prezi could not be accessed on the equipment as I'd recorded on my Mac. No problems, simply logged into Prezi, went into 'edit' mode and did the overhead presentation from there. Thank goodness I did a Prezi and not a PowerPoint!
Can't wait to try out the new feature of zoom and lock!
Love Prezi!

Not a fan of single click for text. Double click was specific, predictable, and now there is mush on the mouse. Since the marquee (not the zebra) appears when you start typing anyway it translates as a lack of control. You will notice the curious absence of comments which I interpret as a group of adoring fans digesting that even the brilliant people at Prezi can't bat 1,000%.
Of course will live with it for all the other excellent functionality but think this feature is a mite wispy ;-)
The other stuff is coolio.
wow it is confusing but awesome!
prezi rocks!
The ability to move objects without clicking on the zebra is turning out to be a nightmare - as i attempt to move the background around to focus on different areas of the prezi, i inevitably pick up elements and drag them by mistake. please reconsider and make this an option or provide an override.
awesome! Very good ideas!
Wow ! Merci :)
Keep the good work !
Sounds to me like you addressed the most important problems. However, there seems to be no update yet for the Desktop version. When will the enhancements be released for Prezi Desktop? Thank you!
