New editor enhancements
Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 2:31AM

We have implemented new features in the editor that make it easier to add text, move around elements and manage your growing prezi while zooming and panning. Let's see what's new:
1. Move objects around simply by dragging them with your mouse. No need to click on them and use the zebra.
2. Just click anywhere and start typing to add text. Double click still works, and is used to edit existing texts.
3. The "Escape" key of your keyboard just became smarter:
- pressing esc while typing finishes the text edit session and closes the textbox.
- pressing esc while the Zebra is over an object makes the Zebra disappear
4. Lock elements with zooming (photo above): as you zoom in and out and items get tiny or huge, they will fade out and get "locked". They will behave like the background (you cannot drag them or select them but you can write on them). Unlocking is easy: just zoom to the opposite direction. Hitting the "shift" key (for multiselect) or multiselect by the zebra "+" menu option unlocks every object
(locking is disabled in show mode, you won't see faded objects while presenting)

Wat does locking elements do to the show mode? I have tried some faded effects with images due to zooming but that does not do something? So is locking solely for the purpose of showing when the zoom becomes to large in editting mode?
It makes easier to creat a prezi but takes much more time to (re)edit it.
Thanks you.
Hi, I am Do-Won, Lee from South Korea.
I give a lecture to those who wants to learn and plan presentation with power-point.
Recently, I was preparing a new style of storytelling presentation and found PREZI.
What I feel about PREZI? I believe this is it!
Amazing! Fascinating!
This program is just what I was looking for. After years of Power Point, I consider this is a better way to show my presentations
this looks cool
cool check out my prezi just search up my baby brother please comment
hi your programme will revolutionalize the way presentation is done. i however cannot seem to be able to upload photos for my presentation.please improve on this since it is easy to upload pictures from my c drive for facebook or twitter profile.thank you.
thank you for solving the zoom in problem and the constant use of the zebra. it will make working with prezi that much easier.
I am frustrated that I cannot cut and paste BETWEEN separate Prezis... which denies me the ability to reuse or share elements and ideas, both complex and simple.
Hi.
I couldn't find a "group/ungroup" feature in Prezi. Maybe I'm not looking for it hard enough.
But such feature would make it so much easier to move groups of objects around, especially when you create, for instance, a group of elements that form a diagram/cycle, etc and realize you want them somewhere else (all of them). Currently, I have to move items 1 by one.
Thanks.
I use powerpoint, very much. I´ll change to prezi.
All cool for starters, need to accept more video formats. How do I place photos and prevent them for blowing up full size (want to do it smaller, like the videos)?
Will the desktop editor be updated to support this?
I love it. For a teacher Prezi is the future way to presentate. All improvements made that make it easier for us users to create and edit, is a benefit:-)
Hello Prezi,
why was my previous comment removed? Do you not like if somebody is asking questions?
I just wanted to know when you will release these new features for the Desktop version.
I have to say removing my comment is really surprising me. I asked politely and put an emphasis on how much I like the enhancements.
Let's get some layer control! Prezi rocks otherwise!
Hi Zoli,
I'm really sorry to see that my comments haven't been published. Is this the way you conceive your customer relationship? Not to mention I'm a paying one.
As I wrote on Thursday, I was in Budapest on Friday. I met a social club made of chairmen and CEOs, most of them very interested in (and absolutely discovering) cloud computing and, as part of it, Prezi.
I meet 4 social clubs like this one every month. I've recommended Prezi since I started using it, about 18 months ago. I think I cannot recommend any service that doesn't listen to its customer. So I'm not sure I'll continue recommending your company.
When I ask Google or Zoho for support, as a paying customer I get help that shows commitment from the providers. A company needs such a commitment. Or maybe I don't understand the way you want to develop the company.
I'm hard when it comes to giving feedback. That's because I'm always looking for improvement. So I usually say more about what looks wrong than about what seems good. But I'm still using Prezi, which means I don't know any better presentation tool yet.
Good luck because the way Prezi started was full of promise. You challenged the way everyone was thinking about presentations. Maybe you haven't challenged yourself enough, deleting features that were useful and adding features that make the experience more visible. The best tool is not the one to which there isn't anything more to add but the one from which there isn't anything to take out anymore.
it is very ok
Unhappy. Before I was clicking on an empty space to remove the zebra. Now I should press esc, or travel with the mouse to the top left menu. Is there any other way? How about right click?
Some problems appeared after doing some real work with the enhanced editor: http://community.prezi.com/prezi/topics/some_new_problems_after_editor_enhancements
did you make this website me and my friends are on this website now it makes class work so enteresting and enjoyable thinks alot
The new features sound good, but editing now is so slow and time-consuming!
People,
I only see 3 of the 67 comments registered here. Clearly you are moderating this thread heavily so the comments must not be positive. My own previous comment - which I went to some lengths to stay light on - was axed.
Please do not be like the "big guys" and try to force this situation.
Your users get a charge out of discovering a unique idea, we pay you money, we take you under our wing and champion your project to our friends. We are trying to get away from the "big guys".
Instead we see an ill-advised design change, with a massively moderated comment thread on a major issue. We see a product that worked nicely and is now compromised when your "community" would completely understand revisiting the situation and making real time adjustments based on recent findings. We get it.
In my previous comment I simply noted that Prezi is a fairly non-linear application and when you made it so that the simple act of clicking the mouse to - for instance, de-select an item and clear the zebra - initiates a text box that the whole app starts to feel "flaky". I mean, do you really like that when you click somewhere Prezi now believes you want to type text. Honestly does everyone on your staff think that is a good idea? I bet not and someone who is in a position of authority is glossing over the concepts that are creating the real time hockey stick for this magnificent application.
Specifically, do not try to do ALL of our thinking for us. It makes it very hard to maintain "focus" in this new editor with the single click presumption. Thank God you added the escape key because I find myself using it incessantly now.
To be clear I absolutely adore the product whereis I absolutely hate just that one recent change from a double click to a single click to initiate text input.
Maybe I am the only one and everyone else thinks it is great. If so I would expect to see comments that help me understand how to adapt to the situation. That is the beauty of a community and the benefit of threads; we are checking to see if our understanding is correct. I fully expected to hear from a long time Prezi user that I did not know what I was talking about and I needed to consider... well, I just don't know now do I.
Anyway, since I assume this comment will not be published I would like to wish you luck again and of course I will continue to use Prezi. That is simply not a question ;-) You're going to have to screw it up a lot more before we give it up.
The new enhancements are rather confusing, since every time you click on the canvas to move focus, it will start offering text editing. Thus you will have to click the undo-Button every time to get back. Furthermore, reediting existing objects starts becoming annoying: If the focus of the object concerned is too close, you will have to downsize the object first until the Zebra can be used (might be a side-effect of the locking enhancement, is it?). Editing and Re-editing objects using the Zebra only was much more reliable. I therefore would appreciate to be back to the former release. Many thanks!
P.S.: Referring to my previous comment dated Oct 14 / 17:41, I meanwhile became aware of the possibility to move selected objects (hold shift + drag cursor and then move the selected objects).
this is amazing, thnx
