Prezi Shows Off Collaborative Presentation Editing in Google Wave at Google I/O 2010

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Google Wave is a love child of chat rooms, email accounts and live collaboration tools. The formerly invitation based platform just went live at this year’s Google I/O conference, Google’s largest development event of the year in San Francisco. This year two Prezi developers Balint and Akos were invited to introduce a concept that allows Wave users to embed prezis and collaborate live.

In Wave you can embed different applications to work with. These are called gadgets. For Google I/O Prezi developed a gadget concept for Wave, which allows small groups to show prezis to each other and even edit live. Our developer, Balint introduces the Prezi Wave gadget for the reporter of The Next Web Apps. Please note that this is a demonstration of a concept right now. There’s no timeline for when or even if this will be available.

Dear Prezi Authors,

We’ll have to unplug Prezi.com this Sunday, February 28th from 10-12am CET (08:00-10:00am UTC), due to arrival of some exciting new cargo (so keep a close eye on the blog).

During the process, our online services will be unavailable. This means:

1. You won’t be able to reach Prezi.com, the online editor,
2. You can’t login or reach your online Prezis from PreziDesktop (offline editor available for Pro users).
3. You can still edit, and export presentations with PreziDesktop in offline mode (since the software is not necessarily connected to the internet).
4. Of course you can even show your Prezis during downtime, if you have previously downloaded them to your computer.

We will try to make this as painless as possible. Our most effective weapon to achieve this goal is transparency and support.

For this reason, we welcome your comments on @prezisupport on Twitter while our data center is offline. Once the upgrade has finished, we will notify you immediately on the blog and on Twitter as well.

Help us speed up Prezi by clicking a link

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

We’d like to invite you to join a short test session. Prezi has to serve lots of media (images, videos, prezis) and we would like to do it as fast as we can. Now we are looking for an even better service we will use in the future. With your help we can choose the right one. We’ve created a simple speed testing webpage for this purpose. It automatically loads pictures from different service providers.

Please click here, or the link below and wait for the images to show up (images were taken on a Prezi Party). The process only takes a couple of seconds: there is an automatic speed test built in, you do not have to press anything. Once the images are fully loaded, you can close the page.

Thank you for clicking and helping us to improve Prezi!

Prezi License Upgrades: Recurring Payment, First 30 Days Free

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

BLOG_pay

This Sunday we have upgraded the license page, and made some core changes: (Log in and check the site here, or click here if you are new to Prezi).

  1. Prezi payment is now recurring. This means your annual subscription renewal is automatic until you decide to unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe at any time (This does not affect existing subscriptions).
  2. You can now pay with your credit card for a Prezi license too (earlier, users could only pay with an existing PayPal account).
  3. Public and Enjoy subscribers can now try out the Prezi Desktop software for 30 days without any limitations (when the trial period expires, you won’t be able to access the desktop editor, unless you upgrade. You can of course access to your online Public or Enjoy accounts, and show prezis exported from the desktop during the trial period).
  4. Our subscription prices are now in US Dollars
  5. Subscription period is now one year for both paying accounts. For both paying accounts the first 30 days are free of charge (your credit card will only be charged on the 30th day of use).

We hope you find the new page nice and easy to use. So why don’t you give it a try and upgrade now?

Group Access Feature Temporarily Removed – Repair in Progress

Monday, October 26th, 2009
group error
Dear Prezi Authors,

We had to remove a feature temporarily from our services. Right now you will not find those prezis on your My page that had been shared with you to view or edit as a member of a group. Prezis you have simply shared with others for edit or view remain visible, this unexpected act only affects the group access feature. Our system administrators and developers are working hard on fixing this.

Why we had to do this?

Earlier today we have experienced unexpected server issues. Our system administrators have started to work on solving the problem right away, and Prezi.com got back online within a few minutes. It turned out that there are more database elements to be fixed. Technically we can keep Prezi solid and online by removing the group sharing feature till we finish working on the issue.
We’ll get back to you asap with more.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

The Prezi Team

Server maintenance this Sunday

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

We’ll have to unplug Prezi.com this Sunday morning from 10-13 AM CET (08:00-11:00 UTC), due to software upgrades. The goal of the server upgrade is to remove a certain component from the infrastructure that might – in some cases – can cause malfunction.

  4. Of course you can even show your Prezis during downtime, if you have previously downloaded them to your desktop.

We will try to make this process as painless as possible. Our most effective weapon to achieve this goal is transparency and support.

For this reason, you can comment to this post or ask any questions at Prezisupport on Twitter while our data center is offline. Once the upgrade has finished, we will notify you immediately on the blog and on Twitter as well.

Temporary Network Issues Solved

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Update 3: I have just talked to our system administrators and developers, and I think I can explain this very embarrassing network glitch. When we have switched servers this Sunday and moved to our new provider, software environment has obviously changed as well. It seems that we had a problem that could be best described by the analogy of a home PC reinstall: part of the Prezi system somehow couldn’t work within the new environment, so our administrators had to perform some further system fixes. We really hope that there will be no more unforeseen issues related to Sunday’s core changes. Thanks for your patience!

Upadate 2: Prezi is back online again. It seems we could fix the technical problem that caused the issue. It was not a server downtime though, there were some system glitches we could solve ourselves. We’ll explain this as soon as we are sure what has happened. More soon.

Update: It is clear that the source of the issues is not Rackspace, our data center provider. Our sysadmins will soon come up with a solution. We’ll update this post as we know more of what has happened.

It’s not that we want to test the support service of our new host already, still you may experience unexpected network glitches right now. We are aware of the situation and our system administrators are working hard to solve the issue. Sorry for the inconvenience!

We Have a New Host: It’s Rackspace

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

rackspace_logoNow that Prezi’s server upgrade has finished successfully, it’s time to announce some big news about the background of this process. This morning we didn’t just clean a few machines or run some system maintenance routines in fact. It was much bigger than that. Today we have a new host. Prezi has just joined the fleet of a massive, global data center provider, who can guarantee 100% network uptime, live fanatical support, and new, shiny data centers on two continents.  Prezi’s new partner is Rackspace, founded back in 1998, serving 62,000 costumers, employing over 2,600 certified experts (called The Rackers) worldwide. We already had the chance to experience Rackspace feedback, special thanks to enterprise sales consultant Sab Knight for his great support during the setup period!

And one more thing: this big player is quite eco-friendly. Rackspace has cost-effective green servers and company-wide conservation programs as well.

The new partnership means that our data centers – and your Prezi experience – have become way more solid. This step forward has completed a very important developement turn. Thanks to you, we are growing fast and from now on we have a hardware background that can keep up with Prezi’s beat.
